Dennis Castro is an award-winning Producer, Director & Editor who has extensive experience with a wide range of clients and projects, including television programs and commercials, educational and instructional videos, and independent feature films.
Born in the Philippines, Dennis was the son of a television & radio journalist and one of the pioneers of the Philippine broadcasting industry. Having grown up with his father and older brothers in the broadcasting industry, Dennis spent many childhood moments in a television studio or film set, and from an early age, was steeped in the language of film and television production. He cites his familial roots as the biggest influence for his passion for the visual medium.
After moving to San Francisco, Dennis began to develop his love and appreciation for his craft, where he began his production training at a young age. As a teenager, he volunteered for a local public access television station, Pacifica Community TV 26, operating camera for local events across Northern California. As he moved up the ranks, Dennis was trained in all aspects of production and eventually was directing and producing television programs.
Simultaneously, Dennis entered the College Of San Mateo's Broadcasting Program, with an emphasis on television. As a student, he worked on hundreds of locally produced programs, in different capacities for KCSM TV60, which at that time, was one of three Bay Area PBS affiliates. Dennis also served as the News Director and a part-time radio disc-jockey for KCSM Jazz 91. Shortly thereafter, Dennis received his Associates of Arts in Broadcasting & Electronic Media and an Associates of Science in Marketing Communication & Web Development.
While still in school, Dennis produced and shot an independent short film, "King's River", which premiered at The New York International Independent Film and Video Festival, and received a Bay Area Cable Excellence Award. The following year, he produced "White Trash", an independent feature film, in collaboration with writer/directors Mitch Altieri and Phil Flores of Butcher Brother Films.
As a freelance producer and director, Dennis has been a collaborator on a variety of award-winning commercial productions
for a diverse range of clients, including Bayer Pharmaceuticals,
The Gap, Fedex, Wells Fargo Bank, Paramount Pictures
and ABC Television.
Dennis is presently in pre-production, as producer and
director for "Left Turn Market", an independent short
film about the tragic consequences of cultural ignorance
and miscommunication in the inner-city. "Left Turn Market"
is projected for completion and release in the Winter
